The reopening of schools has become a point of contention between the government and the public when students, as well as parents, voiced concerns over the ongoing closure of the schools.

The federal government has allowed the states to determine when the lockdown should be lifted in their respective states. As the federal government has abolished restrictions on worship institutions, some State governments have not yet lifted restrictions on churches and mosques.

Nevertheless, Cross River and Borno are two states which have been able to reopen primary and secondary schools in their respective states.

After food and relief products are distributed to people in critical need in the state, Governor Zulum declared that three secondary schools in Bama will be reopened to enable students to pursue their education.

The Governor said, according to his report, I’ll be moving back to Bama with immediate effect. We will restore the government secondary school day and transform the mega school to a secondary school, while a girl’s secondary school is briefly cited in Shettimari.

The Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade has also been given the date of reopening of the state’s schools. Commissioner of Education at the Cross River State, The reopening of a trial by schools will begin on 16 June 2020, according to Godwin Amanke.

The Commissioner said the students should wear a face mask at school while thinking of forms about reopening schools. The kids will wash their hands regularly at the school door often. Also used are hand sanitizers. When the children enter the school, the face mask is discarded and the face cover is used mainly for ventilation.

In Nigeria we must adapt to coronavirus as the country can not be locked down until eternity, Governor Ayade noted.

Governor Ben Ayade said I think the federal government should be eager to promote the re-establishment of schools because the coronavirus has come to live with us and the fact is that countries that have tried to re-establish schools have had to deal with the prevalence of the virus, so how long can we expect as a country? So maybe we need to follow a new lifestyle which will incorporate coronavirus as part of our lifestyle.

It is noteworthy that Professors govern the two states which announced the reopening of schools.
