Brazil has registered more than 50,000 deaths from Covid-19, making it the second country with such casualties after the US.

With a confirmation of more than one million coronavirus infections in Brazil,  BBC reports that, this development has occurred in the midst of consistent political unrest in the South American country.

Information from experts reveal that, the peak of the outbreak in Brazil is still weeks away.

With the Americas responsible for most of the new infections, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recorded the biggest one-day increase in cases.

The agency disclosed that, more than 60% Of the 183,000 new cases reported in 24 hours, were from North and South America.

Meanwhile, rival protest group and supporters in their thousands, who are opponents of Brazil’s far-right President Jair Bolsonaro were not afraid of the spread of the pandemic in the country, as they took to the street on Sunday.

Amid all the recent development, the latest of them all is that, Anti-government demonstrators are calling for Mr Bolsonaro to be impeached.

What triggered this occurrence was the arrest on Thursday of a former aide and family friend who is accused of corruption.

His supporters say Congress and the Supreme Court are trying to curb his powers.
