Ogun State youths earned national accolades over their conduct in the recent #EndSARS protests, but sadly after that, hoodlums infiltrated the demonstrations which had thankfully led to significant reforms including our State Government’s implementation of the 5-point resolutions of the NEC.
Let me appreciate our royal, religious, and community leaders for their role in the youths’ decision to suspend the protests.
With a heavy heart, I commiserate with every family who lost life or property. The deaths, arson and other damage done were unwarranted, but with them gone now, citizens can go about their businesses peacefully.
Recall that I instructed all our security agencies to provide adequate security for peaceful protesters, after I had ordered the release of arrested protesters. These are indications that our Government believes in good governance, as demanded by our youth.
Here, I must commend our law enforcement agencies in Ogun State, especially the Police for their restraint in handling the situation, despite the few bad eggs in the organisation. Our youth felt safe, remained alert to our developmental projects and can now benefit from the youth empowerment programme to be launched this week, targeting 5,000 youth with 250 in each LGA.
The welfare of the Ogun State people remains a priority to our Administration. Despite the reasonable peace being enjoyed, security agencies will therefore continue joint team patrols, while Government continues to monitor the situation.
Together, we will build the Ogun State of our collective dream.
