Ever since the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari approved the gradual easing of lockdown in Nigeria, the deadly coronavirus disease has been spreading widely.
Recall that the Federal government approved the gradual easing of lockdown in Nigeria in other to relieve the pains and hardships faced by the citizens.
However, as the first and second phase of gradual easing of lockdown takes effect as approved by the government, the rate at which the deadly virus is multiplying has become worrisome. This is nonetheless attracting the government’s attention which might lead to another lockdown.
The country as at today has more than 28000 confirmed cases of the deadly virus with the death toll currently pegged at 634 and to make matters worse, the deadly pandemic is not showing any signs of slowing down at all.
So far Lagos State remains the epicenter of the virus in Nigeria with 11045 cases. FCT Oyo and Edo come next in 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. They are however closely followed by Kano, Delta and Rivers state who have so far amassed over 1000 confirmed cases individually.
The recent lifting of the ban on interstate travels and resumption of flight operations will no doubt worsen the situation.
In my opinion, these seven states, Lagos, FCT, Oyo, Edo, Kano, Delta and Rivers should go on another lockdown as from Monday 6th of July 2020 because the above states constitute a major transmission point in their various regions. For instance over 90 percent of the total corona virus cases in the Northern part of Nigeria emanated from Kano while that of the South West emanated from Lagos.
Also these states listed above has over 1000 cases of the coronavirus and therefore imposing another lockdown in these states may help to reduce the spread of the deadly coronavirus in Nigeria.
