NIGERIA@60: Our Strength,Our Weakness The Reason For Our Celebration -Dapo Abiodun

Our strengths, not our weaknesses, should be the reasons for celebration today, the 60th National Day. This year’s theme “Together, We Shall Be” is apt, but we understand that the global health reality has moderated the extent of the deserved celebration.

Like all countries, we emerged from one transition process that now defines our existence, and credit is due to our forebears and founding fathers many of whom are from Ogun State and who sacrificed their all in the independence struggle including General Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, Chief Ernest Shonekan, GCFR, and the June 12, 1993 General Elections winner, Late Chief MKO Abiola, GCFR whose emergence is a model for free and fair elections.

Enjoying the last 21 years of democratic rule is enough reason to celebrate our diversity in togetherness at 60, and since we understand that development is a collective process, we will together have more reasons to celebrate more glamorously in the coming years.

Statistics convince me that even as our understandable economic realities may fall short of our expectations, we are on a steady growth under the reforms of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. But we are expectedly patient because of the unforeseeable COVID-19 pandemic that hit our economy at all levels.

The National Day theme connects directly with the #BuildingOurFutureTogether Agenda of our Administration which has always given the good people of Ogun State a loud voice in policies and programmes that develop all sectors through people-oriented projects in Infrastructure, Social Welfare and Wellbeing, Education, Youth Development, and Agriculture (I-S-E-Y-A).

This Diamond Jubilee therefore give us an opportunity to appraise and improve on our initiatives as an Administration in the last one year.

We will continue to contribute to the development of our people, as individuals or organisations across the public and private sectors, especially as we will not take the welfare of our workers for granted.

Happy Independence Anniversary, Ogun State People. May we continue strong.
