The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has begged the Federal Government to release the circular on pension increase in line with the increase in national minimum wage.
The senior citizens frowned at government’s nonchalance at releasing the circular in tandem with the recent wage increase of workers in April, 2019.
The union also said it would sponsor a Bill in the National Assembly on National Minimum Pension.
It stated that its legal team had been mandated to take up the matter with immediate effect.
The union stated these and other matters on pension in a communiqué it issued at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
The communiqué, which was signed by its National President, Dr. Abel Afolayan, and General-Secretary, Elder Actor Zal, reads: “To this effect, the union is urging the Federal Government to issue the circular on the pension increase with immediate effect.
“The meeting has decided to set in motion the machineries to sponsor a Bill in the National Assembly in respect of National Minimum Pension. Its legal team has been mandated to take up the matter with immediate effect.”
