The Commissioner of Police, Abia State, Janet Agbede has confirmed the death of two inspectors during an attack by gunmen on the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) facility at Umuagu in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state by unknown gunmen.
Agbede, in a briefing held on her behalf by spokesman Geoffrey Ogbonna, said the two inspectors died in a gun duel as they tried to repel the attackers.
Agbede also claimed that eight members of the attackers suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and ESN (Eastern Security Network) were also gunned down.
Police said a Sienna bus and Toyota Camry car were recovered from the attackers.
Agbede said the assailants attacked the CID facility about 6pm on Saturday, shooting rapidly, and that they burnt down the office after throwing an explosive device into it.
Speaking further, the police spokesman said the attackers also released suspects in detention.
An exhibit car was burnt but no firearm was removed,it was said.
In Imo, police headquarters in Isu Local Government Area has been razed yesterday by gunmen.
