What is the value of your voter’s card?
The most influential people/instrument/institution that determine election in Nigeria are thugs, godfatherism and Supreme court.
All our elections are products of rigging or other form of manipulation. The only difference is just the strategy. Our voters card have little or no value. If this can change, then there will be confidence that people will be elected based on what they can do. The ‘best rigger’ always win.
Mention any successful politician in Nigeria that is not breeding thugs/militants for election propose. Forget the smile in the poster. If he doesn’t have, his godfather have them in store for him.
A major source of strength for electoral success in some parts of South West is National Road Transport Workers (NURTW). On the day of election, while you are busy speaking English on social media, these guys are already at polling units for obvious reasons.
Believe it or not, an MC Oluomo can be a senator in Lagos. What he needs is just the party to put his name as their candidate. Even if the party is Oshodi Peoples Congress. It sound too true to be true. The reason is simple. Can you challenge all the ‘eruku’ that will backup polling units?
If the voter’s card is strong, no politician that will not appear for debates. No candidate that will be governing by proxy. No candidate or politician that will still addressing people sitting down or reading from a paper written by another person because he will be versed about issues on ground. No politician that will be begged before addressing issues.
If voter’s card is strong, young people with vision will contest and win election by selling themselves to the electorates not by buying votes.
If the voter’s card is strong, intellectuals and visionary leaders will determine who runs the government through their votes.
For now, if Fela Durotoye contest 10 times, he will be beaten 10 times. Not because he doesn’t have what it takes to run a country but because he does not have the godfather and thugs. He does not have the funding. How may SAN can Fela Durotoye gather to the supreme court if he has to contest electoral irregularities?
If the voter’s card is strong, you will contest!
